Abiotic Stress Signaling and Responses in Plants
نویسنده
چکیده
As sessile organisms, plants must cope with abiotic stress such as soil salinity, drought, and extreme temperatures. Core stress-signaling pathways involve protein kinases related to the yeast SNF1 and mammalian AMPK, suggesting that stress signaling in plants evolved from energy sensing. Stress signaling regulates proteins critical for ion and water transport and for metabolic and gene-expression reprogramming to bring about ionic and water homeostasis and cellular stability under stress conditions. Understanding stress signaling and responses will increase our ability to improve stress resistance in crops to achieve agricultural sustainability and food security for a growing world population.

Transcription Factor-Mediated Abiotic Stress Signaling in Rice
Abiotic stresses are the major cause that limits productivity of crop plants worldwide. Plants respond to these stress conditions at physiological and molecular levels. At the molecular level, the expression of thousands of genes is altered in response to various abiotic stress conditions. Several studies have been performed to find out the role of these genes in abiotic stress signaling. Howev...
متن کاملWRKY Proteins: Signaling and Regulation of Expression during Abiotic Stress Responses
WRKY proteins are emerging players in plant signaling and have been thoroughly reported to play important roles in plants under biotic stress like pathogen attack. However, recent advances in this field do reveal the enormous significance of these proteins in eliciting responses induced by abiotic stresses. WRKY proteins act as major transcription factors, either as positive or negative regulat...

During the 1990's, much evidence has suggested roles for salicylic acid and H2O2 in responses of plants to pathogens. This article reviews recent international research suggesting that these compounds are also involved i...
متن کاملHydrogen Peroxide Signaling in Plant Development and Abiotic Responses: Crosstalk with Nitric Oxide and Calcium
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), as a reactive oxygen species, is widely generated in many biological systems. It has been considered as an important signaling molecule that mediates various physiological and biochemical processes in plants. Normal metabolism in plant cells results in H2O2 generation, from a variety of sources. Also, it is now clear that nitric oxide (NO) and calcium (Ca(2+)) function...
متن کاملAbiotic stress signal transduction in plants: Molecular and genetic perspectives.
Low temperature, drought and salinity are major adverse environmental factors that limit plant productivity. Understanding the mechanisms by which plants perceive and transduce these stress signals to initiate adaptive responses is essential for engineering stress-tolerant crop plants. Molecular and biochemical studies suggest that abiotic stress signaling in plants involves receptor-coupled ph...
